Steve and the team over at TheWPMag.com have launched a magazine which promises to be an absolutely outstanding resource for all people who use WordPress! In the first issue there’s information on building a theme from scratch, a competition, learn a little about some really useful plugins and other really useful tidbits. If you’ve been using WordPress for a while or have been considering it (or if you use another Blogging tool or CMS) then please head on over to http://www.thewpmag.com and have a look at what WP can offer you. Sign up to their e-mail or RSS feeds too so you can always stay up-to-date! It’s FREE, informative, friendly and useful - just like WordPress itself!
Congratulations Steve - long live TheWPMag!
Today, Wednesday 15th October 2008 is Blog Action Day. Everyone here at RichardTape.com will be doing something for this good cause, whether it be donating directly, charity collection or doing some physical and getting sponsored for it.

So go have a look, take part and do your bit.

Today be “International Talk Like A Pirate Day!” Avast land lubber, get me some grog ye dirty bilge rat. Yarrr!
If you have absolutely no idea what I’m going on about, get yourself over to the official site and check out how you too can be as cool as me. *ahem* Stop laughing. Seriously tho, it’s all fun and games here at the office with pirate ’stuff’ everywhere. If you’re ‘celebrating’ TLAP day then let us know in the comments below - we’ll appreciate your banter! Ensure you talk like a pirate tho
A what-now? Duffa (who, some of you regular visitors will know, I am a member of and is an Ultimate Frisbee team) have teamed up with Manchester Warriors Korfball Club and Lions Softball Club to engineer a fantastic opportunity for everyone who is even vaguley interested in trying out a new sport. On Saturday 4th October 2008, Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield, Manchester will host the inaugral event where anyone and everyone can rock up and try out each sport. We’re hoping that it will raise the profile of all the sports involved and perhaps increase membership for some of the clubs.

Just a quick update: We’ve not vanished or given up on the internet - we’re just really busy at the moment working on a very big project with a tight deadline. Thank you to everyone who has e-mailed and commented on some of our posts, we’ll get back to you all, we promise. The mayhem should end in about 3 weeks when we will return with tutorials, links, tips, galleries and showcases.
Sorry for the very criptic ‘we’re busy but can’t tell you what it is we’re doing’ post, but we have to keep schtum on this one else we get in a whole boat load of trouble!
So then, as promised here are RichardTape.com’s first offering of completely free desktop wallpapers. Our first couple are, quite frankly, shameless advertising, but we quite like them none-the-less. They adorn our PC’s here at Tape Towers and we’d love to hear from you if you like them so much that you choose to see them for the 3 seconds you don’t have anything open after restarting your PC :) We’ve included loads of different resolutions and also throwin in a 1900×1080 for the widescreen folk amongst you.

Recently I was asked about getting a Flickr RSS feed to be put onto a website for
which there is a wonderful Plugin for Wordpress already written by Dave Kellam. I was then asked if it was possible to have these images which were dragged from Flickr used in a LightBox. Fortunately there is already an excellent plugin called Lightbox2 which we’re able to utilise. With a few very simple modifications to the FlickRSS code, we got what we wanted! (You can see an example of this in the Footer of all of our pages under “…elsewhere”. Here’s a tutorial on how to achieve just that.

For your viewing and desktop pleasure, RichardTape.com will be releasing 2 free wallpapers this coming Monday (28th July 2008). They will be in a ‘minimalist’ style and will be of all shapes and sizes and resolutions going all the way up to 1920×1080. If demand is high we will produce a multi-monitor version. There has been quite a few hours work gone into producing these little beauties, so we hope you like them. There’s a few finishing touches to do (hence the delay until Monday) but we think that they’ll be worth the wait.

Firmly fixed in the ‘play’ department, the executive colouring book is something that a friend introduced me to - it’s hard to believe that it was first published in 1961. Not only is this highly amusing, it’s also alarmingly accurate for some people I met last time I was in London. But then again, that’s probably what being in ‘recruitment’ will do to you. *ahem* Such a shame that this is long out of print - without doubt I would have ordered one. Go cheer yourself up and have a look.
